The Walbrook Singers welcomes new members: trebles (boys and girls singing the ‘top line’) and adults (singing alto, tenor or bass).
Boys and girls are welcome from age 7 upwards. The maximum age for trebles is 18. When boys’ voices change, they are encouraged to sing alto, tenor or bass with the ‘adult’ section: many of our current adults were Walbrook trebles themselves. There is no audition for children’s voices. When the treble section numbers over 20, then a waiting-list for new members may be used. Trebles rehearse every Sunday during school terms, 3.15-5.00pm.
Adult voices are welcome from age 16 upwards. We welcome male altos (counter-tenors) and female altos (contraltos), tenors and basses. Some musical experience and score-reading ability is expected from the adult singers, and new members may be asked to attend an informal audition with the conductor. Membership of the adult section is at the discretion of the conductor and committee. Adults rehearse (on average) twice a month, on Sundays, 3.15-5.00pm.
There are no opportunities for adult sopranos to sing with the Walbrook Singers. However, the conductor also directs the City Chorus and the London College of Music Chamber Choir, and interested sopranos are encouraged to try these groups: call Paul on 020 8632 1854 or email paulayres@clara.net for more information.
Subscriptions to Walbrook Singers are £50 per annum, which may be paid annually or in instalments. Where two or more members of the same family sing with the choir, a single subscription covers all family members, although additional donations are always welcomed.
More established members may be asked to consider donating a larger amount by direct debit, to help secure future plans.
