The Walbrook Singers, based in Ickenham, West London, was established in 1979, hence celebrating 30 years this year (2009). Drawing singers from the local area, the Choir was originally a choir of boys’ and mens’ voices but has recently extended to mixed children’s voices. Many of the men currently singing in the choir have sung in the Choir since their treble days.
Although not affiliated to any church, the Choir has maintained the tradition of singing a cathedral choral repertoire with residential visits in recent years to lead the worship at Hereford Cathedral (Summer 2004), York Minster (Easter 2005) with our most recent residential visit to Lichfield Cathedral in Summer 2007. Recent singing engagements since our previous Lichfield visit have included summer 2008 concert performances in Schleswig-Holstein, Northern Germany at Tönning and Meldorf Cathedral as well as leading evensong at Guildford Cathedral (April 2008) and Southwark Cathedral (May 2009).
Last summer, 2009, we returned to Lichfield, and pictures of the visit can be seen here
During the school year, the Choir works towards the performance of two to three concerts or events in a variety of musical styles at local churches.
Our young singers have taken part in the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations and the Commonwealth Day Service in Westminster Abbey, and we've appeared on Channel 4's T4 and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
In a few days, we shall be setting off for our week at Hereford Cathedral - see here for the Music List
